A can of Monster Ultra Energy Drink a glass of monster energy next to a can

Monster Energy Zero Ultra

Monster Energy Zero Ultra is shockingly unaggressive in it's delivery.

I poured it in a rocks glass expecting a neon green monster to stare my face down but was greeted with an opaque beverage almost like lemonade. It's just a bit chalky going down, similar to the guru energy drink reviewed earlier. It's thick. Something must be a little starchy in there. Again it's lemony, limey citrusy – as long as weren't not calling it orange. It's easy to drink, and gets better with each sip, . Perhaps my body is starting to flood with energy and is pumped for more. although it's still a bit too sweet for my liking The carbonation is fine bubbles heavily dispersed and leaves little sensation on the back of your tongue. I think monster is trying to be inoffensive with Zero Ultra, to appeal to the non soda drinking crowd like me.

The can is painted with, no embossed with some kind of floral design. It would be pretty if the monster logo wasn't on it. But then how would I recognize it? Combining the two make it seem like this drink was made by Jack White for display in his house. I think he would like to have a can on his mantle. Every day he can drink it during his afternoon lull (which for him is probably like 8pm) and then perhaps someone can put a new one there when he's not looking so it's always available. If friends stop by they have to drink regular monster from the fridge. I'm a little disappointed by the color. Could they not have made it a little more radioactive looking? It's still monster after all.

The caffeine for the can is 140mg which is pretty high. I skipped my afternoon coffee and am having this instead. Monster Zero Ultra has Panax Ginseng Flavor. WTF? Is that a typo? I usually go for the Ginseng for the brain boost, not the flavor. Not that I regularly do that. I'm going to work for one hour now and report back on energy and brain boosting power.

20 minutes in: I compulsively reached for the Monster. I wanted more. After I drank it my thirst was unquenched. I am irritable and unfocused.

25 minutes in: I feel ill and need to lay down. Several minutes later. Feeling amped. Totally unfocused. What should I do?

48 minutes in. I am exhausted

55 minutes in. give me more. I need it. I am very grumpy.

Checking back in after an hour I have a new clarity. My brain is totally focused, on just chilling and not doing any work. This isn't good cause I have work to do. This drink is like a drug. You ride waves of ups and downs. It has turned me into a bit of a monster. It is truly the monster energy drink zero ultra.

If I was like, working on my feet it would probably work better, but it does make me crabby.

Star Rating

3/5 stars. Lots of things happening. Should try again under less stressful circumstances. Maybe some panax ginseng instead of just flavor would bump it up a star??
